Individualised Professional Development Portfolios (iPDPs)

The project,  "Improving Trainee Achievement through online Individualised Professional Development Portfolios (iPDPs)", will extend flexible provision and improve achievement by developing an interactive, internet-hosted professional development portfolio (iPDP) to support Work Based Learning trainees onto the second year of the Certificate in Education. The iPDP will be used within and beyond the course, thus supporting Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

This will be offered through two routes: firstly, with those potential trainees from the WBL networks with whom we work, who wish to progress directly on to the second year of the Certificate in Education (CertEd) or Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) through the bridging/APEL route; secondly, through a group of WBL trainees presently in the first year of the CertEd/PGCE.  For the first group of participants the iPDP will facilitate and evidence the progression of those trainees who intend to access, through the bridging/APEL route opportunities, the level 5 Diploma qualifications (be they the CertEd/PGCE or other equivalent qualifications) as identified in the new LSIS proposals.

The iPDP will facilitate the progression onto, through and beyond the second year by giving continual access to the trainee’s profile, progress records and action plans; it will promote flexibility, individualisation and self-regulated learning across the 24 centres of the University of Huddersfield provision. Furthermore, the iPDP will support learning analytics – the facility to generate individual profiles of achievement and learning at a granular level to inform feedback and promote progression.  Whilst the benefits can be seen at an individual level, cohort-wide analysis is also available, thus enabling profiling of different and specific categories of students. This will help in the identification of improved teaching and learning strategies for individuals and cohorts.
